What is Tai Chi?*

Tai Chi Chuan is a unique, centuries-old Chinese exercise that integrates into one system elements for health improvement, a moving meditation, and a martial art. Based on a sequence of 108 slow, naturally-flowing movements, Tai Chi is ideal for all ages and abilities.

It is designed to relax the body and mind, improve concentration, and help develop flexibility and strength. The slow, intentional movements result in a loosening of the joints and tendons and allows the free circulation of the internal energies. They also facilitate a natural movement in the spine by relaxing points of tension in the body.

Ultimately, Tai Chi can assist in integrating the mind and body, leading practitioners toward harmony between themselves and the universe.

Health Benefits

Tai Chi works with all of the body's systems deeply yet gently. This makes it an exercise suitable for persons of all ages and health conditions.

Developed by Master Moy Lin-shin, Tai Chi Chuan has an extra degree of stretching and turning in each movement, placing the emphasis on improving the practitioners health. This is what makes Master Moy's form unique. With diligent practice, this type of movement produces a profound effect on all systems of the body.

Transforming the physiology of its practitioners, Tai Chi improves circulation, while increasing strength and flexibility. In time, Tai Chi becomes an internal art for practitioners, going much deeper than an individual's muscles and bones, and benefiting the entire body and spirit.

In addition to restoring physical vigor, the movements of Tai Chi have a calming influence on the mind. By engaging one’s total concentration, Tai Chi becomes an active mediation.
